Ashurst Wood vs Keymer & Hassocks
Div 2

K & H extended their losing streak further on Saturday with a 3-2 defeat away to Ashurst Wood.Their last victory was on 20/4/09 since when they have lost 7 consecutive games.Having never experienced anything like this before and finding themselves rock bottom of the league it is proving difficult to change the pattern. They have simply forgotten how to win as this game showed all too clearly

The first half was fairly even but despite a reminder not to make any silly mistakes AW were gifted their first with a misplaced back pass which went straight to their forward.Further disaster struck when a free kick was conceded just outside the area the AW player probably couldn’t  believe his luck when he was presented with a large hole at the near post and duly smacked the ball into it

However the tide turned when Mark Handford playing his first game found himself with only the keeper to beat and made no mistake-AW had a player sent off and James Harris nodded home the equaliser from a Toby Raftery corner.Surely this was to be K & Hs day-but then the self destruct button was pressed and Fin Fogarty got himself sent off which put the home sides tails up.That said the game was decided in the space of 5 minutes when firstly James Handford broke into the box but with 2 teammates unmarked inside the six yard area he opted to shoot instead and duly missed. The referee then awarded a disputed free kick, again on the edge of the area.It seemed somehow inevitable that they would score and so they did

Credit to both sides for trying to play football on a truly awful surface.
