Keymer & Hassocks Football Club. Playing Football in Hassocks at Adastra Park since 2003

Keymer & Hassocks vs Peacehaven United
Div 2

K & H had to endure virtually constant pressure to overcome Peacehaven with a 2-0 result. The plan if the toss went their way was to defend the slope in the first half so they were prepared for it..They coped very well although Peacehaven were unlucky when a super effort hit the post but Alex Pearce had already done the same at the other end

Any hopes K & H had that P might tire in the second half were quickly dashed as if anything they upped the pressure but they also had problems of their own with any long ball pumped forward to Rob Kift who was having a good battle with the centre half.

The deadlock was finally broken when Dan Goodrum rose above his marker to nod home a powerful header from just inside the box. The keeper got a strong hand to it but couldn't keep it out.

P were playing a high line with their Lino’s flag going up on numerous occasions with no complaint until one near the end went Kift appeared to be clearly onside as he went on to chip the keeper but the Ref went with the Lino after consultation and then sent Kift off for a second yellow.

Shortly after it was Peacehaven’s turn to feel aggrieved as a scrambled effort went in and the celebrations started until it was noticed Lino Robin King had his flag up.The Ref duly consulted and was told the player was clearly offside and interfering with play so it was ruled out.P were clearly annoyed yet maybe both the incidents had in fact evened each other out.

The contest was put beyond doubt when Toby Raftery intercepted a poor back pass and stroked the ball home past the advancing keeper.

K & H MOM went to Craig Jackson for a splendid performance in goal although he was given a close run by Alex Pearce who made a series of sharp tackles and interceptions throughout.Special mention for Jo Davey who had completed the Brighton Marathon only 3 days before yet ignored his blisters to last the whole game.
