Keymer & Hassocks vs Old Varndenians
Div 1

A really good contest v Old Vardeanians ended up with K & H 3-0 winners.K & H opened up in confident mood and looked strong for the first 15 minutes but OV then started to really get in the game and  to edge posession. There was a lot of in-fighting in midfield with the Ref allowing play to flow as much a possible so it made for a high tempo spell and good end to end attacks.OV had the first clear chance when one of their big lads got on the end of a high ball into the six yard box but he somehow managed to head over with the goal gaping.A similar occurrence at the other end saw the away keeper spill a speculative effort and James Harris found himself clear but blasted over from close range

K & H had been somewhat hampered by the bright sunlight in the first half but by the time of the change round it had ceased to be a problem so OV were not similarly troubled.Again the contest was close fought, but 2 penalty shouts then came up.Firstly Lewis Taylor was bought down and the Ref awarded the penalty but the away lino flagged for offside so it was ruled out much to Taylor’s displeasure.Shortly after Matt Agate was similarly felled but it must be assumed the Ref was unsighted as he did not react. The contest was eventually settled in the last 20 minutes when a glorious chip into the box by James Brown found ace poacher  Taylor who headed wide of the keeper.Joe Davey who has had a quiet season so far, finally rediscovered his old magic when he spun on the right and sprinted clear to play a one two with Pete Williamson. The return ball would have reached him to score but an OV defender did the job for him.He finally got his reward when a goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall to him and  he duly smashed it home
